
It’s the ideal course for those who want to improve their maneuvering skills on a sailing yacht. Covers the techniques to participate as a crew or helmsman, including maneuvers inside the marina and personal safety.
After you have done this course ou should have the basic knowledge to sail as a crew member including the being a helmsman on favorable conditions and under the supervision of the skipper
If you have done the RYA Start Sailing and also this course, this previous experience can replace the two first days of the RYA Competent Crew, remaining only just 3 days to achieve this level.

:: Preparation
Prepare the yacht accordingly to the expected meteorology conditions;
Reefing.
:: Techniques and Handling Leaving, coming alongside and berthing on a pontoon;
Sailing near by other boats and approaching;
Man overboard;
Awareness of the danger of sailing with the shore on the leeward side;
The 4 essentials;
Know how to tack without loosing progress;
Know how to gybe in control;
Is able to keep a good communication while handling;
Is aware of the others on the water plan;
Is able to sail round a small course at all points of sailing as a crew member or helmsman.
:: Seemanship Knots;
Winch handling.
:: Regattas Knows the starting procedures on a regatta (theoretical knowledge).
:: Engines Knows what means engine checks. Knows how to start, turn off, gear ahead or astern;
Knows how to berth on a finger pontoon and pick up a mooring buoy.
:: Handling and Techniques Anchoring;
Sailing using transit lines.
::: Safety Equipment and Precautions Is aware of the importance of the first aid kit and pyrotechnics signals including and also the precautions with stowage on board;
Knows how to lunch and enter in a life raft.
:: Clothing and Gear Is aware of the importance of personal safety on board;
Understands and follows the rules of the inflatable lifejackets and harnesses on board;
Understands the actions to be taken, as a crew member, leaving, coming alongside and berthing on a pontoon.
:: Rules Basic knowledge of the rules to avoid collisions: avoid a collision at all cost, motor vs sail, port tack vs starboard tack, windward vs leeward, overtaken vs overtaking.
:: Has knowledge about Points of sailing and the No Go Zone;

Wind effects on tides and conditions to sail;

All prices include fuel, marina costs and acomodation onboard when applicable. Includes the usage of all the safety gear, bed clothing, and food when applicable (breakfasts, lunches and 3 dinners on board). The boat will be supplied on your arrival. Includes a free book "RYA Sail Cruising and Yachtmaster Sheme" with your first RYA course with us. If you wish to make use of the Helly Hansen wet weather gear you have to book in advance at a cost o 19,50 euros per 5 days or 6 euros per day. West Coast holds all the required insurances for this type of activity. Nevertheless, we strongly recommend that you hold or buy your own travel insurance adequate to your specific needs. For example, in insurance that covers cancelation costs, theft, disease and that does not exclude recrational sailing is highly advised. It is not included in the price: meals ashore, books you may need, transfer to and from the airport or the city centre (but we can help with booking a taxi or organising a transfer for your group).Warranty
