The General VHF Operator Certificate allows you to operate coastal vessels stations or locations with VFH-MF-HF bands. It is lifelong therefore it does’t have to be periodically renewed.

You must have 18 years old and own a boating license or a professional certificate.

This license is recognized in Portugal and internationally.

Propagation notions (VHF-MF-HF);

The use of equipments;

Operation practical knowledge;

GMDSS;

Revisions and model tests;

Workload

This course has a duration of 12 hours and it’s done in afterwork time from 07h30pm (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to get the updated schedule).

The exam has a duration of 2,5 hours and usually it’s done 1 week after the class in the same schedule, after the confirmation of the DGRM, and with a minimum of 5 candidates.

Location

Oeiras Yachting Harbor offers access to an outstanding water plan. It offers modern infrastructure with restaurants, shops, showers, parking and boatyard all in a stunning location between Lisbon and Cascais.

Around the marina, you will find several high quality beaches, and ocean swimming-pool and a cycle path by the water. Its strategic location at the mouth of the river Tagus allows you to experience the Atlantic or otherwise look for the more protected and tidal waters of the river.

The VHF-A Operator Certificate (carta de VHF) allows to operate coastal vessels stations or VFH locations and it’s valid for 5 years, it’s therefore necessary a periodical renewal

You must have 18 years old and own a boating license or a valid professional certificate. This license it’s valid for Portugal.

Program

The preparation course for the VHF-A exam includes the practice of the simulator including simulation calls of Mayday, PanPan, Securité and routine as well as the use of the DSC for mayday and routine (individual) calls).

The VHF-A exam has a duration of 1,5 hours and usually it’s done 1 week after the class on the same schedule, after confirmation from the DGRM, and with a minimum of 5 candidates.

The Local Skipper License allows you to cruise with shore always on sight, up to 10 nautical miles from a safe harbor and up to 5 nautical miles from shore, regardless of the power and dimension of the boat.

This course can be done directly without taking the Basic Skipper (Carta de Marinheiro), and it’s the option that we advise for those who are beginning their nautical path.

Minimum age of 18 years old, know how to swim and minimum compulsory education are the prerequisites to attend the course.

Regulations for preventing collisions at sea;

Documentation

The documents listed below are required by the issuing authority (DGRM) to attend the "Patrão Local" examination and be issued a certificate on approval:

1 Photocopy of your identity card or passport (scanned);

1 Passport Photo (scanned);

A copy of your school certificate (scanned);

If you are not a portuguese national you must produce a residence permit;

A declaration confirming that you know how to swim;

Photocopy of your "Marinheiro" certificate (in case you already have it);

A medical certificate stating you are able to practise nautical sports;

For the inicial enrolment it’s only necessary to fill in our application form and drop a copy of the identity card and a passport photo. If you already have the "Marinheiro" certificate you must leave us a copy and it will be no longer necessary to show a certificate confirming that you know how to swim.

The remaining documents must be delivered up to a week before the day of the exam.

The Basic Skipper License (Carta de Marinheiro) allows you to cruise by day up to 6 nautical miles from a safe harbor and 3 nautical miles from shore.

From the age of 14 till the age of 18 allows to skipper boats up to 5 meters with power up to 30bhp. Older than 18 allows to skipper boats up to 7 meters and up to 60bhp.

For jet skis there isn’t a power limit but must be older than 16.

The Coastal Skipper License (Patrão de Costa) allows you to cruise boats without any power limit or dimension. It also allows the navigation by day or night up to 25 nautical miles from shore.

You must own the Local Skipper License for at least one year (relative to the date of exam) and be at least 18 years old.
