This course is ideal for everyone who wants longer passages and is though for anyone with RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification.
The course introduces the principles of astronomy navigation, practical use of sextant, measurement of time, determination of position by sun and stars, checking of the compass and navigation through the maximum circle. Global meteorology concepts, including tropical storms and passage planning are also part of the program.
If your goal is to take the "RYA Yachtmaster Ocean" Certificate of Competence, this course exempts you from having to retake the theoretical test at the time of the oral test for "RYA Yachtmaster Ocean" Certificate of Competence.
The program´s topics include:
The earth and celestial sphere;
Practical guide to use sextant at sea;
Sun, stars and other measurements;
Oceanic passage planning.
After completing this course, you will have a solid knowledge of astronomical navigation theory and also will be able to determine your position ate sea using the sun, moon and stars.
After passing the exam, you will obtain the "RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory" certificate.
When taught on-site, this course has 40 theoretical hours. At this momement, we only offer this course through distance learning (online).
